Marketing Strategy Session
A 1-day session to clarify your brand’s marketing message and design a marketing strategy that will grow your business.
Need to fix your marketing?
Here’s why you should start with a Marketing Strategy Session.
In my work with business leaders, I often find them making and believing these false ideas:
“If my website looked better and more professional, my business would grow”. So they pay a designer lots of money to make something pretty, but they never see results.
“We’re not up with the times - we need to start posting on Instagram/Facebook/TikTok/Threads”. They hire someone who calls themself a “social media expert” and while they gain followers and likes - they don’t get what they really wanted which was leads, sales calls, and signed contracts.
“I’ve seen other companies use videos - we should do those too”. So they create videos with slick music and beautiful imagery - but fail to gain momentum.
It’s devastating to see how much time and opportunity is wasted going down these paths. And it’s not because any of these paths or marketing tools are wrong or couldn’t be helpful. They simply don’t work because they’re doing the right things - but in the wrong order.
What does a business need to do before they begin revamping its website, launching a social media account, or creating video content?
What they need is a clear marketing message.
Without a clear marketing message, customers are confused and fail to connect with your marketing content. You end up ignored and lighting money on fire on various marketing activities.
Once you’ve realized your marketing is confusing people, there are many questions that follow:
How do I pick a company-wide message that doesn’t just sound good but increases revenue?
Our company is complex, is it actually possible to have a clear message?
How do I explain in conversations what we do in a way that would make sense to anyone and get people to ask for my business card?
What should the top of my website say to hook people?
What should I do next and in what order?
These are important questions.
Left unanswered, it costs businesses tens of thousands in sales every year. And since overhauling your marketing is a big investment for you in terms of money and time, you need to make sure you're building something that works.
That’s why a Marketing Strategy Session is where you should begin.
A Marketing Stragy Session saves you from wasting time and money on marketing projects that don’t grow your business.
Session Breakdown
Here’s what we’ll get done together.
PART 1
Clarify your message
To stand out from your competitors, you need a clear message. I’ll help you use the Storybrand 7-Part Framework to do the following:
Define the desire your customers have as it relates to your product or service
Identify the problems that you help your customers resolve
Give your customers a simple plan they can follow
Create a clear call to action that leads your customers to a sale
Determine what success looks like for your customers
Describe what failure you help your customers avoid
Identify an aspirational identity for your customers
With these questions answered you’ll have a clear message and the foundation we need to do Part 2 & 3 of your session.
PART 2
Write your “One-Liner”
Your one-liner (or elevator pitch) is a distilled version of your company’s message and is composed of 3 parts. It’s how you answer the question, “What do you do?”, in a way that is interesting and generates business.
Creating an elevator pitch and repeating it over and over is a great way to spread the word about what you do, get your staff on the same page, and get people to ask for your business card.
Your one-liner is a powerful tool that gets used many places:
Explaining what you do at networking events
On your business card
On your email signature
On your website’s homepage
On your profile descriptions on social media
PART 3
Write the top of your website
You get less than 5 seconds when someone lands on your website to convince them to stay. If you don’t engage them with a clear message, they’ll hit the back button and go to a competitor’s website.
We’ll work together to write out on a whiteboard the words that should be on the top of your website so you can quickly pass “The Caveman Test”, and answer these three questions:
What do you do?
How is it going to make my life as your customer better?
What should I do to get it?
After the session, I will create a mockup design of what your new site could look like and include it in your final report.
PART 4
Outline your sales funnel
Now that we have clarity on your marketing message, we can outline your sales funnel. While this will vary depending on your business situation, we can cover and design a strategy including:
What pages should the website have? What content should each page have?
How will you generate traffic to the website?
How can you leverage trade shows and industry events?
What online paid ads would be the best fit for your business? What should you budget? LinkedIn? Instagram? Facebook? Google? YouTube?
What kind of free download should you offer on your website to build an email list? (PDF, quiz, video, webinar, etc)
What topics would be covered in an automated email sequence after you collect an email address?
What kind of content should you publish? What topics, what medium (video/photo/text), what cadence, what style?
Common Questions
Let’s get into the details.
How long does it take?
A typical session takes 6-7 hours and follows this schedule:
8:30am – 9:00am
We drink coffee together while Hunter gives a keynote on the StoryBrand marketing framework so everyone is on the same page.
9:00am – 12:00pm
Clarify your company's message, write your elevator pitch, begin writing the top of your homepage.
12:00pm – 1:00pm
We take your team to lunch and give our brains a break.
1:00pm – 2:30pm
Finish writing the top of your homepage and outline your sales funnel.
Who should attend this session?
I require that anyone who would have final say on your website attend this session. Ideally, this group will be 2-4 people. This usually includes your CEO, head of marketing, head of sales, and occasionally head of operations.
What do I receive after our session?
After our session, you will receive a Marketing Strategy Report for your business within 7-10 business days. In this report you will have:
Your company’s marketing message on one page (also known as a BrandScript)
Your company’s elevator pitch
The words that should be on the top of your website
A design mockup of what a new website could look like
An outline of your sales funnel with a list of next steps for you to take. I will also include prices on what it would cost to have my team build them for you.
This report is independently valuable - you can take this report to any agency or designer. However, if you feel I’m the right fit, I hope that you’ll consider investing in working with me.
We’ve never done something like this. Do you offer any sort of guarantee?
You need to make your marketing budget count - heck that’s the whole point of the session! That’s why I offer “The Clear & Confident Guarantee”. If for any reason you don’t feel clear and confident on your brand’s message and the next steps to take, I’ll happily refund 100% of your money. But in my 10 years of consulting, no one has ever asked for this - this session will give you the clarity you need to start marketing more effectively.
How much is a confusing marketing message costing you?
How many clients can you afford to send to a website that sells you short? How much longer can you and your team go without knowing how to confidently answer the question, “What do you do?”? How many leads have been missed because no automated marketing systems are in place? Not clarifying your marketing message and strategy may already be costing you a lot.
What’s my investment?
